Senior Platform Engineer

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to develop and care for the platform and cloud infrastructure that are the backbone of our solutions. This role focuses on building robust, scalable, and efficient platforms that enable teams to develop, test, and deploy applications seamlessly. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will combine software engineering, systems architecture, and operations know-how to ensure Modern Admin's infrastructure meets the needs of our applications and services. You will also help drive an organizational mindset rooted in DevOps, DevSecOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), and modern Cloud Engineering practices. At the senior level, we seek engineers who bring both depth and breadth of expertise, leveraging cross-disciplinary mastery to collaborate effectively and deliver high quality, mission critical solutions.
Key Responsibilities:

Design, implement, and maintain SQL Server and other relational databases

Manage and optimize Azure virtual machines SQL Databases, and Azure Storage resources

Monitor database performance, implement tuning improvements, and ensure high availability and disaster recovery

Resolve cloud infrastructure issues quickly, analyze performance, and implement improvements

Anticipate and plan infrastructure scaling to meet the growing needs of the business

Collaborate with development and client services teams to ensure high reliability and high performance

Enforce data security policies, including encryption, access control, and auditing

Utilize tools such as Azure Security Center, Microsoft Defender for Cloud, and SIEM solutions to monitor and respond to security threats

Apply a security-first approach by maintaining compliance logs, audit trails, and supporting audits to meet SOC, SOC 2, HIPAA, NIST, GDPR and other regulatory requirements

Develop and maintain documentation for database architecture, configurations, and standard operating procedures

Lead assigned projects, driving cross-team collaboration, execution delivery, and accountability

Stay current with emerging technologies, trends, and certifications in cloud computing, database systems, and cybersecurity

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field

5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator using SQL Server

Hands-on experience configuring, managing and monitoring Azure subscriptions and resources - including virtual machines and serverless computing configurations

Strong knowledge of T-SQL, PowerShell, and database scripting

Familiarity with information security frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST)

Experience with security tools such as Microsoft Defender, Azure Key Vault, and network security groups (NSGs)
Preferred Qualifications

Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or similar certification

Experience with data integrations tools such as SSIS and Azure Data Factory
-
Experience with software deployment tools and processes
This position requires onsite work in our Cambridge, MA office a minimum of 3 days per week.

Modern Admin is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The base salary pay range for this Senior Platform Engineer position is $110,000 - $160,000 depending on candidate experience. In addition, individuals may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. Actual compensation will depend upon an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications and other relevant factors. The salary pay range is subject to change and may be modified at any time.
